L-Histidine

L-Histidine is one of the nine essential amino acids for the human body, meaning it cannot be synthesized internally and must be obtained through diet or supplementation. It is sometimes classified as a semi-essential or conditionally essential amino acid in infants and individuals with chronic diseases.

The name Histidine originates from the Greek word "histos," meaning tissue. It plays a vital role in tissue formation and repair and is a necessary precursor for synthesizing histamine, a crucial biogenic amine. The primary benefits of L-Histidine stem from its function as a histamine precursor, which is involved in immune response, digestion (stimulating stomach acid secretion), sexual function, and the sleep-wake cycle, where histamine acts as a key neurotransmitter.

L-Histidine also helps maintain the myelin sheath—the protective layer around nerve cells—and acts as an important biological buffer, helping to maintain optimal pH levels in the blood and tissues.
